Beethoven Mass in C & Hagenberg Illuminare
Beethoven’s Mass in C, Op. 86, is an absolute gem of a work. Composed in 1807 during Beethoven’s so-called “middle period” of prodigious musical activity, it was his first Mass and is an intensely personal and dramatic response to the liturgy.
llluminare is American composer Elaine Hagenberg’s first extended work. Using lesser-known sacred Latin texts, the piece takes us through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion. But as Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace.
Program:
Beethoven: Mass in C
Elaine Hagenberg: Illuminare
Date: Friday 7 November 2025, 8pm
Venue: Old Museum Concert Hall, Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills
